Space Odyssey's Real-life Hal-9000, CIMON-2, headed towards International Space Station

Image credit IBM. Despite the fact the original CIMON went rogue and stopped taking orders in 2018, a second robot with artificial intelligence, known as CIMON-2, is making its way towards the International Space Station.  Initially, there were fears that CIMON (Crew Interactive Mobile Companion) could be HAL-9000 from "2001: A Space Odyssey." But IBM's Matthias Biniok said it was a successful mission, even if CIMON-1 ignored some requests from ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst. Chilean protesters take down police drone using laser pointers

The protests began October 14, 2019 and as the protests have raged, the repression unleashed on demonstrators has become increasingly brutal and high-tech. The video shows the drone, a police unmanned aerial system (UAS), hovering above a sea of demonstrators as the green lasers are trained on it. Soon, multiple other lasers are trained on it and when the drone attempts to escape, the lasers have an almost tractor beam-like effect, forcing the UAS to falter before it helplessly descends to the ground. Terminally-ill scientist will become the world's first Cyborg

Dr Peter Scott-Morgan, 61, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease two years ago, but instead of accepting his fate he decided to challenge what it meant to be human. He said he wanted to push the boundaries of what science can achieve so decided to extend his life and become fully robotic - known as Peter 2.0. The world-renowned roboticist has already undergone a series of incredibly complex and risky operations during his journey. This has included developing a remarkably life-like avatar of his face before he lost any muscle. “Terminator-like” liquid metal which autonomously changes structure developed by U.S. Air Force scientists

As reported by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, military scientists have developed a “Terminator like” liquid metal that can autonomously change the structure, just like in a Hollywood movie. The scientists developed liquid metal systems for stretchable electronics – that can be bent, folded, crumpled and stretched – are major research areas towards next-generation military devices. These liquid metal networks can be strained up to 700%, autonomously respond to that strain to keep the resistance between those two states virtually the same, and still return to their original state. 'Dangerous' AI offers to write fake news

An artificial intelligence system that generates realistic stories, poems and articles has been updated, with some claiming it is now almost as good as a human writer. The text generator, built by research firm OpenAI, was originally considered "too dangerous" to make public because of the potential for abuse. But now a new, more powerful version of the system - that could be used to create fake news or abusive spam on social media - has been released. Humanoid Robot Launches to ISS (Video)

Earlier this week a humanoid robot called Skybot F-850 was launched into space aboard a Soyuz capsule. The Russian-built FEDOR robot is to perform two weeks of experiments aboard the ISS before returning to Earth after completion of the Soyuz MS-14 mission.
